During our first visit in Japan, one of the must try dining places on my sister’s list was Tenya.
Day by day, we went ahead with our tour schedule hoping we can come across this popular food chain. At last! On our 6th day, we were able to try it in Ginza. It turns out, Tenya is so popular in Tokyo that you can easily spot one in the city.
And since then, my sister would find time to visit a Tenya store when in Japan.
So when we found out this franchise is opening a store in SM Megamall, we did a little happy dance! We no longer have to wait for the next Tokyo trip just to eat great tasting Tendon and Tempura!

Just recently they opened their 9th store in Tiendesitas; a testimony of their success.
What is TENDON by the way?
TENDON is an abbreviation for Tempura Donburi wherein Tempura is served on a bed of rice in a bowl with a drizzle of special sauce. It's a dish which combines various kinds of Tempura (deep fried pieces of battered seafood and vegetables, such as fish, okra, onions, bell peppers, sweet potato, pumpkin, and etc) in one delightful meal.
So what’s the big deal with Tenya Tempura Tendon that even Justin Bieber and Lady gaga couldn't resist?
1. They are known for its high quality tendon and tempura dishes at a very affordable price.

This JO TEMPURA SOBA/UDON TEISHOKU is only P385 per set, beat that! To add, many of the ingredients they use are from Japan to ensure they provide the best tasting dishes.
2. Tenya specializes in tendon and tempura and are known for serving quick and delicious meals
by using an infrared heat technology, their specially developed automatic fryer.
The result? Consistent and flavorful tempura in as fast as quick as 2 minutes!

3. Each tendon is made even more special with a drizzle of their signature dontare sauce laid over a bed of steaming Japanese rice. It perfectly complements the battered, deep fried seafood, meat or vegetable tempura as it gives a sweet and umami touch to the dish.
No wonder if it will make you ask for extra sauce. Richelle (leia's mom) did!

4. Its modern Japanese interior is so relaxing. The blue and light yellow color palette makes up for a bright and airy ambiance which emphasizes the creative simplicity of contemporary while retaining the warm and familiar elements of traditional Japanese design.
Not to mention the elaborate facade that brings Japan so close to Manila.

The Tiendesitas branch is the biggest yet which can accommodate around 80 customers on the ground floor and an equally spacious second floor which can be closed for private functions for up to 40 people.
For a Japanese dining experience like no other, visit Tenya and have your Tempura the Tenya way.
